Purfresh Granted European Patent for Its Active Atmosphere Technology
MENLO PARK, Calif. - Purfresh, Inc., the industry leader of active atmosphere and supply chain management technologies that optimize the quality of fresh produce as it moves around the world, today announced that the European Patent Office has granted patent No. 2107936 to Purfresh, entitled "Shipping Container Ozonation System."
"This patent coverage in Europe supports our goal of revolutionizing the shipping industry of how fresh produce is shipped around the world," said Dr. Brian Westcott, president and CEO of Purfresh, Inc. "Fresh produce losses due to microbial decay during transit is staggering. As more and more food is shipped around the world, implementation of our technology is even more critical as it reduces waste and protects the quality of the cargo -- delivering fresher fruits and vegetables to consumers worldwide."
Scientifically engineered, the Purfresh system enhances the atmosphere inside a refrigerated container with an active form of oxygen -- commonly referred to as ozone -- to control molds, yeasts, ethylene, Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria and other contaminants in the air and on surfaces. The system is proven effective to minimize decay, control ripening and enhance food safety of fresh produce during ocean transit, making it an ideal solution to protect decay-prone or ethylene-sensitive cargo.
Purfresh has patents pending in the United States. The system is offered as a service by most major shipping lines.
