Recognition training security awareness en security duties - STCW 2010

As one of a few training institutes in the Netherlands Rood Boven Groen has been certified by ILT to teach the new IMO recognised training Security Awareness en Designated Security Duties according to STCW’78 including the 2010 Manila amendments.

After successful completion of the course the participants will receive the certificate for either Security Awareness or Designated Security Duties. From the 1st of January 2014 both certificates are compulsory for all crew on ships sailing under the ISPS Code.

From 5 to 8 November 2013 Rood Boven Groen offers the course Security Awareness training for the first time in combination with the basic safety training in Enkhuizen (The Netherlands).

Security Awareness Training

This is the basic, minimum training for all seafarers. From the 1st of January 2014 the certificate is compulsory for all seafarers without designated security duties on ships >500 GT sailing under the ISPS Code. The duration of this course is half a day.

From the 5th to the 8th of November we offer this course in combination with the 4-day Basic Safety Training. In this case the Security Awareness training will be split into two evenings of 2 hours each.

This course combination is mainly of interest to seafarers wanting to start a career on ships >500 GT.

Designated Security Duties

All those employed on ISPS ships >500 GT who have been appointed dedicated security responsibilities as part of the ship security plan, are obliged to have IMO recognised training in accordance with STCW from the 1st of January 2014. This training takes 1 ½ days. However, if participants are already in possession of the Security Awareness Certificate, this can be shortened to 1 full day.

These two new minimum-security courses do not replace the need for a Ship Security Officer to deliver security related training, but help in the standardisation of vessel safety and security!

Rood Boven Groen can offer these courses at a competitive price, as we do not have rental expenses for facilities. There us no set location, therefore the training can be delivered ‘in company’ on board and even underway. Shipowners can cut the travel expenses for the participants and are only billed for the travel costs of the trainer.

Individuals can express their interest in one of these courses with us and we can schedule the training according to the requests.

Apart from the above training, Rood Boven Groen also offers the following STCW courses to seafarers: Crisis Management & Human Behaviour; Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety & Hull Integrity; Crowd Management and Safety Training for Personnel Providing Direct Service to Passengers in Passenger Spaces (also known as “Additional Safety Training”)

For interest in any of the above mentioned training, please contact us at: info@roodbovengroen.com or tel. +31-517-431077.
