Renowned port management and development scholars launch distance learning program
Seven internationally renowned academics, that jointly cooperate in www.porteconomics.eu, the web-based initiative aiming at developing and disseminating knowledge about seaports, launch a distance learning program on Port Development and Management. The involved academics (Peter de Langen, Theo Notteboom, Thanos Pallis, Pierre Cariou, Michael Dooms Jean-Paul Rodrigue and Francesco Parola) all thought leaders in the port industry. They frequently contribute to industry reports and conferences and publish widely read opinions, amongst others in Port Strategy and Port Technology International. Furthermore, they have experience in leading executive education programs worldwide and lead cutting edge research projects.
The distance learning program aims to increase access to this specialised knowledge. Participants can improve their knowledge next to their job, from home or their office, with individualised planning and a selection of electives of their interest. The program consists of self- studying readers, a large number of short video lectures and individualised assignments. Four core modules provide core concepts and insights, participants can chose four additional electives of more specialised topics.
The target audience consists of individuals working -or with the ambition to start working- in the ports industry (with organisations such such as port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, and freight forwarders, as well as companies that provide services to the port industry). A secondary audience consists of academics, that want to increase their knowledge for teaching and / or research. Given the international experience of the instructors, with a teaching record at 20+ universities across all continents, the program is relevant for a worldwide audience.
This new program is a next cooperative step, following the successful introduction of the Port Executive Seminar (organised yearly since 2010 and held in Chios, Marseille, Antwerp, Naples and in 2015 in Copenhagen) and the development of www.porteconomics.eu to the leading knowledge platform in the industry with >3000 visitors per month. Participants can start from the 1st of September 2015 onwards.
