RILA Joins In Call to Action Urging Congress to Support Smart Technologies in Transportation Reauthorization Bill

Arlington, VA – The Retail industry Leaders Association (RILA) joined a number of private and public sector organizations (http://www.itsa.org/press_release_content/c71_a3462/News_and_Events/Press_Releases.html) today in urging Congress to invest in smart technology solutions in the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization bill. RILA Vice President of Government Relations, Kelly Kolb issued the following statement.

“Retailers have already begun reaping the benefits of advanced technologies in their supply chains. As a result of these programs, retailers secure cost savings, make gains in green transportation and experience an ease in capacity issues,” said Kelly Kolb, Vice President of Government Relations for the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA). “Retailers that have invested wisely in technology have experienced increased agility and efficiency in their supply chains, streamlined operations, resulting in a stronger and more secure distribution network, and giving them a leg up on other competitors.

Utilization of Intelligent Transportation Systems is crucial to advancing the productivity of the supply chain and optimizing the flow of goods from factory to store. The Smart Technologies for Communities Act is a pragmatic solution bringing 21st century technology into our infrastructure and we applaud ITS Caucus co-chairs Mike Rogers and Russ Carnahan for their continued leadership on this issue. We encourage Congress to lend their support in the upcoming surface transportation reauthorization bill and secure these strategic gains nationwide,” Kolb concluded.

RILA is the trade association of the world’s largest and most innovative retail companies. RILA members include more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers, and service suppliers, which together account for more than $1.5 trillion in annual sales, millions of American jobs and operate more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers domestically and abroad.
