Ryder UK Supplies Tractors to QV Foods' Fleet

Ryder has renewed the 12 vehicle fleet of QV Foods, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of fresh, prepared and bulk potatoes and vegetables. Under a five year contract hire deal Ryder has supplied a combination of DAF XF105 and CF85 460hp 44-tonne tractor units.

The new tractors will operate with QV Foods existing trailers and be based at the company’s depots in March, and Holbeach in Cambridgeshire. They will be used primarily to collect crated potatoes and vegetables from farms across the East of England and after processing undertake deliveries to markets and major retail chains. The deal with Ryder also includes supplying the Microlise telematics system.

“Our previous fleet had been supplied by Ryder and the quality of service it had provided made it the perfect choice for the fleet renewal,” comments Rob King, QV Food’s outbound logistics manager. “However, Ryder is now supplying telematics with the new trucks and after training is completed we expect to improve driver efficiency and decrease overall fuel consumption to provide cost savings of around 10% per annum.”

Phil Ashton, Ryder’s head of area sales north, added, “The deal with QV Foods typifies the way we work with clients and vehicle operators to help them achieve the greatest efficiencies from their vehicle operation. Specifying telematics for its fleet will help QV Foods get the best from both its drivers and its trucks and enjoy substantial operational cost benefits.”
