SCA Transforest Selects GT Nexus to Automate Global Freight Spend Management
Oakland, CA USA and Hamburg, Germany – April 22, 2009 –GT Nexus announced today that it was selected by SCA Transforest to provide the global logistics data hub and Web-based business applications to centrally manage and control worldwide ocean freight rates and services.
SCA Transforest is the transport and logistics division of SCA Forest Products, a global consumer goods and paper company that develops, produces and markets personal care products, tissue, packaging solutions, publication papers and solid-wood products. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, SCA’s annual sales in 2007 amounted to EUR 11.4 billion. SCA has about 50,000 employees in some 60 countries.
“We have seen dramatic freight rate fluctuations over the past few years,” said Nils-Johan Haraldsson, vice president, marine transportation at SCA Transforest. “With GT Nexus, we infuse a new level of control to the way we manage our global freight spend. This will help ensure we get the maximum value, regardless of the market situation.”
The GT Nexus portal provides a single, collaborative Web-based system within which SCA Transforest will conduct procurement of global ocean transportation services and manage freight rates. SCA’s partner carriers will use the platform to negotiate rates and keep service contracts up to date. All of the world’s major ocean carriers are already familiar with the system based on their experience of supporting other GT Nexus freight contracting customers.
As a hosted platform, SCA Transforest, its business units and partners will use the system via a common Web browser, with the services delivered directly over the Internet, eliminating the need for installation of complex hardware or software. The delivery model also gives SCA Transforest the flexibility to test the solution without being locked in to a long-term commitment.
“On-demand technology is giving companies the ability to address key parts of their operations, without the need to invest a small fortune installing complex software,” said Andy Stinnes, vice president of products and strategy at GT Nexus. “SCA Transforest has embraced the innovation of this model to drive efficiencies and competitive advantage into its business.”
SCA Transforest joins a growing list of major global corporations who are using the GT Nexus portal for a wide range of global transportation and logistics, document management and supply chain visibility activities. These companies include Liz Claiborne, Del Monte, Nestle, Hewlett-Packard, The Home Depot, Sears, Schenker, Procter & Gamble and Xerox.
