Smiths Detection Helps SecureGlobal Logistics Meet TSA Mandate

PINE BROOK, NJ– 16 February 2010 – Smiths Detection <http://www.smithsdetection.com/> today announces that SecureGlobal Logistics (SGL) purchased its X-ray inspection and explosives trace detection solutions to meet the upcoming Transportation Security Administration (TSA) air cargo screening mandate.

Qualified as a TSA Certified Cargo Screening Facility (CCSF), SGL ships time-critical components for the oil and gas industry to hostile areas around the globe. The Houston-based company is already screening 100 percent of its urgent air freight though the TSA mandate requires only 50 percent to be currently screened. A Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, SGL transported over one million pounds of airfreight in 2008.

Mark Laustra, Vice President of Homeland Security, Smiths Detection, said: “We are honored that SGL has selected Smiths Detection’s Advanced Technology X-ray and Explosives Trace Detection systems as part of becoming CCSF qualified. These two complementary technologies help indirect air carriers screen a much wider range of commodities and materials while still meeting TSA’s mandate.”

Mike Middleton, Executive Vice President, SecureGlobal Logistics, said: “Our customers trust us to deliver their shipments on time. Using both Smiths Detection’s X-ray and trace detection technology allows us to easily meet TSA’s CCSF requirements, meet our deadlines, increase our security and provide even more value to our customers.”

Smiths Detection currently has six dual-view X-ray screening systems on TSA’s Air Cargo Screening Qualified Technology List and three explosives trace detectors on the Candidate Technology List for Air Cargo.
