St. Johns Ship Building Launches 157’ OSV for Caribbean Market
Palatka, Fla. (January 10, 2012) — St. Johns Ship Building of Palatka, Fla. launched the Sea Strength, a 157’ offshore service vessel (OSV) for A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. The vessel will be the largest in the A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. fleet and will expand the company’s reach into the Caribbean offshore market. The Sea Strength is expected to be delivered February 2012.
“St. Johns Ship Building does excellent work,” said Allan (Mark) Ramjallacksingh, Operations Manager at A. R. Singh Contractors. “The staff there has been professional and courteous. It’s always easy to discuss issues and get immediate feedback.”
In addition, he said “I was impressed with the design by Entech & Assoc., Inc. The quality of the designer and build speaks to that of the shipyard.”
The Sea Strength is a twin screw vessel powered by two Caterpillar C32 marine type engines rated at 850 horsepower each at 1,800 RPM with Twin Disc reverse-reduction gears. It features a bow thruster unit driven by a Caterpillar diesel engine rated at 300 horsepower at 1,800 RPM and two John Deere diesel engine powered generator sets, each rated at 99 kW at 1,800 RPM. The OSV is designed to be less than 500 gross tons ITC, have a Trinidadian load line and comply with the Code of Safety for Caribbean Cargo Ships (CCSS Code).
A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. is located in the Southwestern town of Point Fortin on the island of Trinidad. The company has served the local Trinidad market since 1978 and provides marine transportation, pipe laying and offshore construction services. A. R. Singh Contractors Ltd. operates a fleet of approximately 20 vessels including tugs, barges, crew boats and supply boats.
St. Johns Ship Building, Inc. is a full service ship building facility with over 30 years combined experience, state of the art equipment and a crane capacity of 500 Tons. The shipyard features over 900' of bulkhead waterfront including a 400' launch basin, a 1,200 Ton Dry Dock, a 425' X 75' fabrication shop as well as complete carpentry, electrical and machine shops. St. Johns Ship Building is located on a beautiful 98 acre wooded site along the St. Johns River in Putnam County (approximately 68 southwest of Jacksonville, Fla.).
