State University of New York Maritime College To Salute Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited; Crowley Maritime Corporation & Richard De Simone, President, XL Insurance North America
The State University of New York Maritime College will salute Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (Shell Trading and Shipping); Crowley Maritime Corporation and Richard D. DeSimone, ’77 (M.S.), President, XL Insurance North America Marine, during SUNY Maritime College’s annual Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner on Tuesday, May 1st, 2012.
John Krousouloudis (General Manager, Ship Management, Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited), a 1976 SUNY Maritime graduate, will accept the award on behalf of Shell Trading and Shipping. Thomas Crowley, President, CEO and Chairman of Crowley Maritime Corporation, Jacksonville, FL, will accept the award for Crowley Maritime and Richard DeSimone, President, XL Insurance (US Ocean and Inland Marine Unit, New York) will accept the award from his alma mater on his own behalf.

Richard De Simone is President of XL Insurance North America (XL is a global insurance and reinsurance company). A 1971 graduate of the City University of New York Baruch College, Mr. DeSimone received his Masters in Transportation Management from the State University of New York Maritime College in 1979. In addition, he also received the Associated in Marine Insurance Management ( AMIM ) designation in 1979 and attended the Insurance Institute of Americas Advane Education program at the Wharton School – University Of Pennsylvania. A past Chairman of the American Institute Underwriters (AMIMU), he is the first Chairman from the United Stated to lead International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI). Mr. De Simone has served on the Board of Directors of the American Bureau of Shipping and the National Cargo Bureau. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Water Quality Insurance Syndicate (WQIS). He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S Navy from 1972-1975.
Tickets for the 2010 Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner to benefit the State University of New York Maritime College Scholarship Fund are available by calling 718-409-4983, or by emailing: admiralsdinner@sunymaritime.edu. Tickets are $350 per person. Tables of 10 are available beginning at $3,500 per table. The event will be held on the College’s Throggs Neck, Bronx, New York, campus in Vander Clute Hall. The cocktail hour will begin at 6 pm and the dinner will follow at 7 pm. Sponsorship and underwriting opportunities are also available for the event as well as for the journal. Attire for the event is business dress. All proceeds of the 2011 Admiral’s Scholarship Dinner will benefit the SUNY Maritime College Scholarship Fund.
