Steve Williams Named Chairman Of American Transportation Research Institute

Arlington, VA – Steve Williams, Chairman and CEO of Maverick USA, Inc. has been appointed Chairman of the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization. Williams succeeds Doug Duncan, President and CEO of FedEx Freight.

Williams, who has served on the ATRI Board since 2006 said during his term as Chairman he would focus on increasing ATRI’s visibility, highlighting the value of ATRI’s research and the crucial role of scientific data in advancing the industry’s safety and productivity.

“ATRI delivers the data gathering and analysis to inform the discussion on a host of headline issues, including onboard safety systems, freight performance measures and driver fatigue. Armed with the facts, carriers can make the right choices for meeting the challenges ahead,” said Williams.

Williams applauded Duncan’s leadership of ATRI, pointing in particular to the Institute’s successful collaboration with FMCSA, FHWA and EPA on a number of critical research studies. “With Doug at the helm, ATRI has become a key source for government agencies and motor carriers to turn for credible industry research,” Williams said in describing Duncan’s tenure.

Bill Graves, ATA President and CEO, welcomed Williams’ appointment, “Steve is widely recognized as one of the most forward-thinking leaders in this industry. Given his reputation as a proactive leader, he is well positioned to advance ATRI’s research agenda in a way that will deliver results for the industry.”

ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization. It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.
