Study Reveals Transportation Industry Has Increased Their Sales, Marketing and Communications Budgets by 53.6% Year-on-Year

PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ – August 2, 2011 – The Transportation Marketing and Sales Association (TMSA), the only organization that focuses on the unique needs of marketing, sales and communications professionals within the transportation and logistics industry, announced the results of its 2011 Membership Survey. The survey indicates that investments in sales, marketing and communications resources and expenditures are significant.

TMSA members were surveyed on topics including company type and revenue, customers, budget and job role. Out of those that responded, the survey revealed TMSA members and their companies generate approximately $300 billion in revenue and over $190 million in sales, marketing and communications budgets. The survey also found that TMSA members are seeing a 53.6 percent increase over 2010 with regard to their marketing budget plans for 2011.

TMSA members are the executive leaders of marketing, sales or communications for mainly 3PLs, highway carriers and marketing firms, according to the survey. Their companies also serve a wide variety of customers, both large and small, annually.

“This survey and the 53.6 percent increase in budgets show that the leaders in our industry ‘get it’ when it comes to making investments in growth,” said Dick Metzler, president of TMSA. “We expect that the winners and losers in transportation will be defined by those that are growing their way out of the economic downturn by significantly stepping up their sales, marketing and communications activities.”
