Swissport Cargo announces several senior appointments
Zurich, 29th May 2012 - Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of ground services to the aviation sector, is pleased to announce the appointment of Martin Sodergard as Senior Vice President, Cargo Operations with immediate effect.
Martin has recently supported Swissport’s operation in the USA as interim Senior Vice President, Cargo for North America, and subsequently started to develop Swissport’s Integrator Handling business after the US role was taken on a permanent basis by Joe Phelan.
Martin replaces Guy Ghysels, who will take up the position of Vice President of Cargo Operations for Europe. Martin’s role in developing Integrator Handling will be taken on by Alan Wright, who becomes Vice President, Integrator Handling & Hub Outsourcing.
John Batten, Executive Vice President of Global Cargo at Swissport International, commented: “I am delighted to announce these changes and wish these talented individuals success in their new roles. Martin will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from his previous roles in DHL. Alan’s key new role will allow us to concentrate on gaining major airline and integrator customers into our portfolio.
“Getting the most out of our operations worldwide is essential, particularly in the current challenging market, and I am confident that the new structure will bring further efficiencies and energy into our business, helping myself and others to engage more with our customers and concentrate on improving the drivers that run our business.”
Another important change, following Swissport’s acquisition of Flightcare in Spain and Belgium, is that Pedro Garcia will temporarily leave his role as Vice President, Cargo Information Systems and take up a six-month secondment as Integration Manager, reporting to the Integration Steering Committee chaired by CEO, Per H. Utnegaard.
