Swissport International welcomes decision of The Brussels Airport Company

Zurich, 8th June, 2011 – Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of ground services to the aviation sector, welcomes the decision today of The Brussels Airport Company to award Swissport with four handling licences at Brussels Airport. Swissport is confident that the decision will be positive for the development of the airport, for airlines and for employees.

Swissport has been present at Brussels Airport since 1990, and is known worldwide for the quality of its services and its good relations with its customers, staff, and other stakeholders. The management of Swissport will now begin a mobilisation phase to ensure a smooth take-over of activities in November 2011. A local management team will be put in place at Brussels Airport that can draw from the vast experience of Swissport in the operation of high-quality, reliable ground handling services.

This is an important and welcome development for Swissport, and the company will make sure that it has the right people and resources in place to meet the responsibilities that the airport has placed with us. Swissport management aims to talk with all of the main stakeholders over the coming days and weeks, including customers, employee representatives, and the various authorities, ensuring good cooperation.

Swissport intends to be more than a highly professional provider of services, but also an organisation that adds value and support to the community at Brussels Airport.

Swissport International Ltd provides ground services for around 100 million passengers and 3.2 million tonnes of cargo a year (the latter using 98 warehouses with a total floor area of over 360,000 square metres) on behalf of some 650 client-companies in the aviation sector. With a workforce of around 34,000 personnel, Swissport is active at 186 stations in 36 countries on five continents, and generated consolidated operating revenue of CHF 1.7 billion in 2010. www.swissport.com
