Tami Porter of Horizon Lines Recognized by University of North Florida Transportation and Logistics Flagship Program

JACKSONVILLE, FL (May 12, 2009) - The University of North Florida (UNF) Transportation & Logistics (T&L) Flagship Program recognized Tami Porter, Director, East Coast & Gulf Terminal Operations of Horizon Lines, LLC, as the recipient of the Impact Award for Community Partner.

Ms. Porter was presented the honor at an awards ceremony on May 1 in Jacksonville, FL.

Ms. Porter was recognized for her contributions to the UNF T&L Flagship Program, including her work evaluating industry case competitions and participating in panel discussions for students. She also arranged port and vessel tours at JAXPORT and provided guidance and expertise for the 130 students involved in the program, according to Lynn Brown, Associate Director of UNF's T&L Flagship Program. The students voted for the award recipient based on her community support and involvement.

Tami is an ardent supporter, role model and mentor to the students in the T&L Society. It's an honor to recognize her with the first-ever Impact Award for Community Partner.

Dr. B. Jay Coleman, Ph.D. and Richard deR. Kip, Professor of Operations Management & Quantitative Methods Department of Management, Coggin College of Business; presented the award to Ms. Porter.

Tami Porter oversees terminal operations at Port Elizabeth, NJ; Jacksonville, FL; and Houston, TX for Horizon Lines, the nation's leading domestic ocean shipping and integrated logistics company. She is responsible for terminal, stevedoring and maintenance services at the three locations, which handles more than 175,000 containers each year.

The Jacksonville Business Journal named Ms. Porter as one of the 2007 Women of Influence. She serves on the Board of Governors of the Propeller Club of Jacksonville and on the First Coast High School Career Academy - International Trade and Logistics Advisory Board as a business partner. She is an alumna of UNF and earned her M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee.
