Thermo King Launches Precedent(TM) -- a Game-Changing Temperature Control Trailer Platform That Will Set New Industry Standards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn., Aug 08, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Thermo King is launching the Precedent(TM), a new trailer temperature control platform, built from the ground up to deliver double-digit fuel savings, best-in-class performance and lower life cycle costs, while providing regulatory compliance and peace of mind for trailer owners and operators.

Beginning January 1, 2013, Thermo King, a manufacturer of transport temperature control systems for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, will also offer a full range of truck and auxiliary power unit (APU) solutions compliant with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier IV final regulations for engine emissions. These units will set new industry standards in both fuel efficiency and emissions control.

Leaders from Thermo King will share this leading-edge range of solutions at an event on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at the Thermo King headquarters in Bloomington, Minn.

Building on a long history of state-of-the-art engineering, we called on our global development teams to create breakthrough solutions that add value while providing regulatory compliance, said Ray Pittard, president of Thermo King North America. The innovative Precedent platform and new truck and APU solutions provide our customers with the peace of mind that they have met regulatory requirements while delivering leading performance, significant fuel savings and lower life cycle costs--all tested under real world conditions.

Precedent

The Precedent features a completely new platform for the trailer market designed to be fully compliant with the new EPA Tier IV final regulations. These units provide the industry's most sustainable solutions and a complete range of options for any customer, including:

  • The S-600, which is a greater-than-25 horsepower single temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California
  • The S-700, which is a greater-than-25 horsepower high capacity single temperature unit with an evergreen engine for use in California
  • The C-600, which is a less-than-25 horsepower single-temperature unit with an allowed useful life in California of seven years

The Precedent platform features a new Diesel Direct Electric architecture to deliver optimum efficiencies, temperature control and double digit fuel savings across real-world applications.

The Precedent S-series features a cutting-edge fuel injection system that delivers optimal fuel injection at exactly the right time to control particulate matter emissions within the engine cylinders. This makes the Precedent S-series engine run more cleanly and eliminates the need for an expensive, high maintenance after-treatment system like a diesel particulate filter.

Both the C-Series and S-series offer a variety of maintenance programs -- through the nationwide Thermo King network of more than 200 dealers -- to help customers keep their units running at optimal performance.

New Thermo King Solutions Available in 2013

Thermo King leaders will also unveil new regulation-compliant solutions available in 2013 on Aug. 9, including T-Series enhancements and the TriPac(TM) Evolution APU:

T-Series 2013 enhancements -- Thermo King T-Series truck refrigeration units will achieve compliance with EPA Tier IV final regulations and be available in the first quarter of 2013. Compliance will be achieved through a combination of technologies including new engines and an electronic throttling valve (ETV) to deliver improved pulldown and fuel efficiency.

Testing demonstrates that the ETV saves up to 30 percent in fuel, reaches setpoint up to 50 percent faster and runs the engine up to 17 percent less -- translating to significant operational and environmental savings for fleets throughout the life of the unit. The full T-Series range will be offered in 2013 with new model names, including T-580R, T-680R, T-880R, T-1080R, T-680S, T-880S, T-1080S, and T-1080S Spectrum multi-temperature units.

TriPac Evolution APU -- The TriPac Evolution APU will lower overall truck fuel consumption, reduce emissions and provide driver comfort. This solution, which can be ordered after Jan. 1, 2013, for shipment in the second quarter of 2013, meets Tier IV EPA final regulations requirements while leveraging new patented technology to drive unit performance, efficiency and user productivity.

Responding to customer feedback, the updated TriPac is the industry's only solution featuring software that can be customized to enhance the customer's operating profile. This APU also features an extended maintenance interval of 1,500 hours, a new flash-loadable control system and improved service access for easier maintenance.
