“THINK ECOLOGIC”: CMA CGM Group launches the Environment Days and reaffirms its commitments

JOC Staff |
Protection of the environment is a major component of the CMA CGM Group strategy and a corporate core value.

For many years now, the Group has been implementing a global environmental strategy, defined by its President Jacques R. Saadé and monitored by the Environment Committee.

This commitment results in the setting up of green measures aimed at minimizing the impact of the Group’s activities on the environment and accompanying the development of more eco-friendly means of transportation.

The Group’s Eco-actions are based on 4 main objectives:
1. Fighting climate change, acting to reduce carbon emissions through the renewal and modernization of the fleet, the reduction of vessel speed and the improvement of fuel quality.

2. Preserving marine life, through environment-minded ballast water management, use of non-Toxic antifouling paint on vessels, and advanced waste management under the “green ships’” program.

3. Developing eco-friendly solutions, through a state-of-the-art eco-friendly container fleet and the development of intermodal transport as an alternative to trucking.

4. Developing an environmentally-aware culture within the Group, by informing employees about everyday eco-friendly gestures and by offering a dedicated training throughout the year.

On the occasion of the French National Week for Sustainable Development, the Environment Committee has decided to heighten awareness among CMA CGM employees by organising both in Marseilles and Le Havre, Environment Days from April 1st to 3rd, 2009.

During this event, employees will discover a new internal communications campaign, various activities, as well as a new “ Think Ecologic” logo symbolising CMA CGM Group’s commitment to the protection of the environment.
