TIGER Grant Awards Will Boost Transportation Job Creation
WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), offers the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s announcement of grant awards from the Transportation Investments Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program:
“Transportation workers across the country applaud the Administration’s roll-out today of new investments in our nation’s transportation system. TIGER grants will continue the economic recovery bill’s track record of putting people back to work while investing in our mounting transportation infrastructure needs.
“Transportation labor is reassured to see an Administration that is unrelenting in carrying out the essential work of creating good jobs as America’s jobless rate remains high. People who no longer have jobs aren’t just statistics on a chart – they are Americans who are searching for any opportunity to provide for their families. Fortunately, the President understands what so many in Washington are failing to grasp: investments in our transportation system are a proven engine for job creation.
“We look forward to working with the Administration and specifically the Secretary of Transportation to build on the momentum from today’s announcement and pass a robust jobs bill.”
