TNT again awarded global ‘Supersector leader’ in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes
Amsterdam, 9 September 2010 – Today TNT NV was again awarded “Supersector leader” for ‘Industrial Goods and Services’ (including ‘Industrial transportation’) of the 2010 Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI). This was the conclusion of a report published in Zurich by SAM, a sustainability investment specialist, which assessed the sustainability performance of over 1,300 listed companies. TNT will remain included in the DJSI Europe and DJSI World, comprising more than 300 companies that represent the top 10% of the leading sustainability companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index.
Peter Bakker, CEO of TNT, commented: “It fills me with pride that TNT again attained the position of Supersector leader for Industrial Goods and Services in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. We regard this award as an independent recognition for our fundamental belief that corporate responsible business is not a fad for prosperous times, but is there to last. And perhaps most important of all, it is the best possible appreciation for the people at TNT who are putting their heart into our numerous corporate responsible efforts.”
This year, TNT took concrete steps to increase its transparency, reduce its carbon footprint and fight hunger around the world. TNT is introducing a new, internationally advanced remuneration policy this year, which maximises variable income and bases the variable income component for executive management for 50% (was 30%) on non-financial indicators. Furthermore, TNT introduced CO2 efficiency objectives: a 45 percent improvement of the CO2 efficiency index by 2020 compared to 2007 levels. Also TNT incorporated the corporate responsibility report with its 2009 annual report and implemented an improved strategy for our partnership with the UN World Food Programme to eradicate world hunger.
