Trincon Group Announces A Special Webinar to Examine New Initiatives to Address The Driver Shortage
COLUMBUS, Ohio—TRINCON GROUP, a leading national transportation industry advisory and technology firm, has announced that on May 8, 2014 it will be holding a special webinar to address the driver shortage and what individual trucking firms can do to respond.
According to Albert Einstein the definition of insanity is, “Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
“To a certain extent, that quote applies to the driver shortage issue,” according to Duff Swain, President of Trincon Group. “Driver concerns have been with us for years; it is time for a new approach. We need to step back, look at the problem differently, and consider different solutions. For years we tried throwing money at the problem, and at drivers, attempting to lure them to one company or another. The result – driver turnover still hovers around 100% and the shortage continues. I applaud the recent efforts of the industry, for example the formation of the “Trucking Moves America Forward” initiative, to educate the public on the importance of trucking to the American economy and help recruit drivers. We need, however, to look more comprehensively at the problem, in particular the role individual carriers play in improving the image and reality of truck driving as a long term career.”
This webinar will take an objective look at driver development and retention and suggest some new ideas and comprehensive solutions:
- Looking at drivers as “professionals” and as employees looking for a long-term career path
- Implementing hiring and “on-boarding” procedures that encourage retention and longevity
- Providing compensation that rewards skills, experience and tenure in addition to productivity
- Fulfilling employee’s (driver’s) need for defined expectations, recognition and consistent communication
- Defining processes that hold drivers accountable
Trincon has worked with companies across the country on this issue for over 20 years. We have seen how highly successful companies have reduced turnover from near 100% to less than 35%.
On May 8th, at 11:00 AM EST, Trincon Group will explore ways to address these questions and others, and start to define steps you can take right now to attract new drivers, and perhaps most importantly, keep the ones you have.
