View New Episode of 'Pulse of the Port'
April 8, 2009
The Port of Long Beach moves more than shoes and toys. Although the vast majority of trade that flows through the Port is manufactured products imported from abroad, its terminals can handle much more.
Watch the latest episode of the award-winning video program Pulse of the Port to see how Metrolink truned to the Port of Long Beach's Crescent Terminal, operated by SSA,to handle its latest crash-resistant rail passenger cars. And just north on Pier C, Matson and SSA handle special refrigerated containers used to transport much of the food and other perishables consumed in the Hawaiian Islands.
But the Port also handles some potentially dangerous cargo like petroleum and other chemicals. That's why the Long Beach Fire Department's hazardous materials team is housed right in the middle of the Port, Station 24 in Terminal Island.
Also in this episode, meet some local high school students who hope to one day work at the Port and a man who once challenged the Port and now heads its governing body, Board of Harbor Commissioners President Nick Sramek.
