DENVER, CO, May 4, 2011 – The Board of Directors of the Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the University of Denver recently held its spring business meeting in Memphis, Tennessee, and welcomed Chris T. Sultemeier, Senior Vice President of Transportation at Walmart, and Donald C. Brown, Executive Vice President, Finance and Administration, and CFO of FedEx Freight as keynote speakers.

Both guest speakers addressed the business and transportation network challenges their respective companies faced during and coming out of an economic downturn, providing a shipper’s perspective to the discussion at the well-attended meeting. Mr. Sultemeier explained the extensive Walmart supply chain and, in particular, how the company maximizes efficiencies within its vast transportation and distribution network, including the extensive use of intermodal freight services. Mr. Brown continued the discussion, explaining how FedEx Freight is reengineering its Less-than-Truckload service network to meet the various service requirements of its customers. FedEx Freight is also a strong supporter of intermodal transportation solutions.

In addition, many board members participated in a very informative tour of the Memphis FedEx Express Hub, which was hosted by ITI Board member and FedEx Express Senior Vice President/Chief Human Resources and Diversity Officer Shannon A. Brown.

“I’m proud to say that this April’s ITI Board of Director’s Meeting was one of the largest to date. We were honored to have two speakers who are very prominent in the transportation industry and who clearly understand the value of transportation education programs,” said Stephen G. Branscum, BNSF Railway Group Vice President, Consumer Products Marketing, and Chairman of the ITI Board of Directors. “As ITI continues to gain prominence, the Executive Masters Program is attracting more and more students to this very important field of study.”
