Werner Enterprises Honors Veterans, Receives Recognition
OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2013-- Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ: WERN), a premier transportation and logistics company, prides itself on the success of its military hiring program and has taken measures to promote military awareness within its company culture. Werner held a Veterans Day ceremony to honor its veteran associates Nov. 11 in the main lobby of its global headquarters. Guest speakers included Werner President and COO Derek Leathers, Vice President of Human Resources Chris Polenz, Director of Government and Field Recruiting Jim Morbach and professional driver David Conkling.

Werner continues to receive recognition for its support of our country’s veterans and was named this week by GI Jobs magazine as both a “Top 100 Military Friendly Employer for 2014” and a “Top 50 Military Spouse Employer for 2014.” The magazine ranks companies on the strength of their military recruiting efforts, percentage of new hires with prior military service and policies toward National Guard and Reserve services.
Werner widely has been acknowledged for its efforts to ease the transition of military veterans into the workplace. Programs like Werner’s Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship, which allows veterans to use their benefits to pay for training while receiving on-the-job instruction, earned Werner an invitation to an event hosted by the president, first lady and vice president. Werner was recognized at this event by Joining Forces, the White House’s military hiring campaign. In a continuation of its efforts, Werner pledged to hire a minimum of 1,000 veterans in 2013 and more than 5,000 veterans in the next five years. The total number of Werner veteran associates hired year-to-date is 1,153. Military veterans comprise approximately 20 percent of Werner’s workforce, with nine associates currently deployed.
