WISTA Announces Three New National Chapters
Shanghai, China -- Karin Orsel, President of WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association) announced today the formation of three new WISTA chapters—Belgium, China and Cyprus. This brings the total number of WISTA chapters to 32 globally.
“We are delighted to be welcoming these new member chapters to the WISTA organization”, stated Orsel. “They demonstrate to us the desire for the expansion of WISTA, and its value as an international networking association for the advancement of professional maritime women.”
Carmen de Wilde, President of WISTA Belgium, observed: “We want to make it an active branch, who will endeavor to organize interesting activities for her members, cooperate with other NWA's and bring an added value to our members.” Presently, the new chapter has 45 members and growing daily; their first event will be a luncheon on December 9th.
WISTA Cyprus hosted its first meeting on November 17th with a presentation by Her Excellency Dr Erato Kozakou-Markoulli, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Her Excellency Dr. Anna Turenicova, Ambassador of Slovakia. Under the guidance of WISTA Cyprus President Despina Panayiotou Theodossiou, this chapter has members from many of Cyprus’ extensive maritime companies.
The first event of WISTA China took place on 28 November 2011 at Shanghai. Members of WISTA China and some members from overseas took part, including WISTA Executive Committee member Irene Lim who was invited to deliver a presentation. Officers of WISTA China were elected in the morning; in the afternoon WISTA members attend a forum called China Ocean Shipping Supply Service & Development Forum organized by CSS-China Ship Service.
Noted President Orsel: “Wista China is our 4th country within the Asian region in addition to our present members: Philippines, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Together these countries already represent more than 10 % of our total membership”.
Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) is an international organization for women in management positions involved in maritime transportation business and related trades worldwide.
