YRC Worldwide Announces 2013 Destination Green Award Winners

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — YRC Worldwide Inc. (NASDAQ: YRCW) today announced the winners of its third annual Destination Green Environmental Excellence Award honoring employees who develop and practice innovative processes in sustainability and efficiency. This year’s winners include two teams and seven individuals from YRC Freight:

  • Transportation and Linehaul Network Team

The YRC Freight network operations team was recognized for its work in optimizing the YRC Freight network to reduce lane miles and subsequent emissions. The individuals who planned and implemented the company’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project were honored for their work with Clean Energy and the California South Coast Air Quality Management District. Other awards highlighted YRC Freight’s strategy to reduce emissions by covering more linehaul miles with 2012 and 2013 SmartWay Designated power units.

“This year’s winners highlight our employees’ ingenuity, resourcefulness and passion to promote sustainable business practices while improving customer service and introducing new efficiencies into the YRC Freight network,” said YRC Worldwide CEO James Welch. “I am especially proud of the work done to maximize the use of EPA SmartWay-designated power units and the launch of our first LNG pilot,” added Welch.

YRC Worldwide is a charter partner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay voluntary emissions reduction program. The company has been recognized with the SmartWay Excellence Award and also was named a SmartWay Champion. YRC Freight, Holland, New Penn and Reddaway are all undertaking a number of different measures to reduce their emissions profiles, including conversion of the entire fleet to fuel-efficient tires, converting to synthetic motor oils and expanding the use of alternative fuels.
